A complicated setup procedure is one of the most annoying aspects of a standard router. At eero, we’ve taken a different approach by making the setup process as quick and simple as possible. Therefore, eero is for you regardless of your level of networking experience or your level of home Wi-Fi adoption. Here’s a quick rundown of what to anticipate; our software will guide you through the process and handle most of the laborious tasks of how to set up eero with an existing router. We recommend reading this page if you’re unfamiliar with Wi-Fi or just need a reminder and coming back to it if you have any questions while configuring an app.

How to start setting up your using eero with an existing router network online is as follows:
Install the eero app on an iOS or Android device

You may get the eero app on Google Play or the Apple App Store for free download. Eero works with iOS and Android devices (check here for details on the versions we support).
Your system cannot be configured with a web browser.
Create a new eero account or sign in with your Amazon account
You must log in before configuring your new add eero to the existing router. Either create an eero account or log in using your Amazon account credentials. Your phone number and email address must be entered. We’ll default call your phone and text you a verification code. Enter this code on the app’s verification screen to create your account.
Set up your eero Gateway
The main element required to set up your network is your gateway. In three simple steps, the eero app will walk you through configuring your gateway eero:
Start by unplugging your outdated router and modem. Please unhook any other wireless devices that are linked to your modem.
The Ethernet cable that was included in the box can be used to connect your Gateway eero device to your modem. You can connect your eero to Ethernet connections on the rear.
Connect your modem to electricity after plugging your Gateway eero device into an accessible power socket. The status light on your eero device will start to eero blinking white. Visit this page for placement advice, including DOs and DON’Ts.
Create your eero Network
It’s time to set up eero with existing router now that your modem and gateway are connected.
The eero app will look for your new eero after selecting Next. When your gateway eero is located, you’ll notice that its LED starts to flash before turning solid. After your eero has been found, you will be asked to choose a place for it (this is how you will identify each eero on your network).
Your eero’s serial number on a sticker attached to the bottom of your eero must be entered if required. Just search for a little but present barcode with the letters SN on it.
Enter your network name (SSID) and network password after choosing a location for your eero. Devices will connect to your network in this manner.
Tips:
Reusing your current SSID and password is an easy alternative if you’re replacing an existing router when selecting a network name (SSID) and password. By doing this, you will avoid having to rejoin any previous network-connected devices.
Remember that having two networks with the same SSID can cause issues. As previously indicated, if you have a modem/router combo device, we strongly advise you to turn on bridge mode so that none of your devices unintentionally connect to the wrong network. Need support? We can walk you through it if you give us a call.
Your eero network will be fully configured once you tap Next.
Add eeros to your network
Your new network will be created once your gateway eero is configured, and you can start adding more eeros to expand it. Any eero device can be added to an existing network.
Please bear the following placement recommendations in mind when adding eeros to your network:
Eeros communicate best when not enclosed; avoid placing your eero(s) within a media console or cabinet behind or beneath any heavy furniture.
Avoid putting your Eero device in front of, on top of, or underneath any major devices since metal objects can interfere with wifi transmissions.
While eero Beacons can only be added wirelessly, eeros can be added both wirelessly and over Ethernet backhaul. We have a tons of placement advice here if you need it. It’s a terrific idea to become familiar with these pointers before beginning so that you can start by maximizing placement throughout your home.
Connecting devices to your eero network
Remember to link your gadgets to your new eero network as a last (and crucial) step. To accomplish this, you must locate your eero network on your device, enter the network password you generated, and establish a connection. Your devices should immediately reconnect if you’re using the same network name (SSID) and password as your previous router. To get these devices to detect the new eero network, you might need to turn on WiFi or reboot them.
Try disabling and re-enabling WiFi on the device in question if you have issues getting it to join your new eero network. Try restarting the device if that doesn’t work and reconnecting to the network when it turns back on.
