Depending on what services you have with Verizon FiOS, you should take different steps to setting up eero with verizon fios:
If you have FiOS TV and Internet, you will need to setting up eero with Verizon FiOS behind your existing router, which will temporarily create a double NAT, and then put them into eero bridge mode.
If you only have FiOS Internet and no TV, you can connect eero directly to your Optical Network Terminal (ONT). Your ONT is set up to talk to your router through a coax cable or an Ethernet cable. The ONT is not a modem and doesn’t act as a network bridge; it just changes the optical signal into an electric signal that your router can use.
If the ONT is set up for coax, you should call the Verizon Fiber Solutions Center and ask them to change it to ethernet. If you can’t do this, you can set up your eeros as bridges behind your current router.
Follow the steps below to eliminate your DHCP lease if your ONT is set up for Ethernet. This needs to be done because FiOS DHCP leases are tied to their router by their MAC address. By letting this DHCP lease expire on the old router, your eero will be able to handle routing correctly.
There are several ways to end a DHCP lease:
Verizon’s DHCP lease interval is 2 hours, so turn off the router for that long. When this lease ends, the new router should be able to get a new one from DHCP.
To get out of the lease, call the Verizon Fiber Solutions Center at 1-800-VERIZON.
Follow the steps for “I can’t connect to the Internet” in the FiOS app to break the lease.
Via the router GUI: Connect a computer to your router and go to your router’s IP address in your web browser.
The most common router IP addresses are 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1. If you don’t know what yours is, you can search on the web to find out. This lets you enter your router’s graphical user interface (GUI), where you can change different network settings. Most of the time, the eero login and password are “admin” and “password,” but your password may be “password1” or be written on the bottom of your router.
The following steps will depend on what kind of router you have. Here are the steps for setting up the most common Verizon routers.
Steps for the Actiontec MI424-WR:
Click on the “My Network” icon at the top of the page.
Choose “Network Connections” (coax or ethernet) depending on how you’re connected to the ONT.
Click ‘Settings’
Click “Let Go.”
Tap “Apply.”
Stop the router from asking for a DHCP lease again by turning it off right away.
Westell 9100EM Steps:
Just click “My Network.”
Choose “Network Connections” from the left menu.
Choose “Broadband Connection” (coax or ethernet) depending on how you’re connected to the ONT.
Choose “Set Up Connection.”
Click “Let Go.”
Click ‘Ok’
Stop the router from asking for a DHCP lease again by unplugging it right away.
Verizon Fios
Verizon Fios is a group of packages for fiber-optic networks that offer speeds of up to 1 gigabit. There are no hidden fees or equipment costs for the packages. You get exactly what you see.
You can get almost a full gigabyte of speed with the fastest package, but you can also get 500 Mbps and 300 Mbps. All three come with price guarantees and routers that you can rent.
Setting Up eero With Verizon Fios
There are different ways to eero setup Verizon FiOS because using Fios TV and Internet requires a double NAT and putting the routers in bridge mode.
Only use Fios Internet
Not all ONTs are set up in the same way. Some can only talk to your eero router through a coax cable, while others can also talk through an Ethernet cable.
You’ll have to do different things depending on what it’s made to do.
Call the Verizon Fiber Solutions Center at 1-800-VERIZON for help with ONTs that are set up for a coax cable. They’ll take care of everything else, and the eero can connect to the fiber-optic network. If you can’t do that, you can cross the eero.
When ONTs are set up for Ethernet cables, they are easier to work with. There are four major answers.
The first thing you can do is turn off the router for two hours. That’s because the connecting eero to Verizon FiOS DHCP internal lasts that long. If the router’s lease has run out, it can get a new one.
Verizon only lets you have one MAC address per account, and when they give you an IP address, they store that MAC address. You should turn off your old router, setting up eero with verizon fios, and then use the Verizon iPhone app to report problems with your circuit. They’ll run an automated test, releasing the MAC address they were holding on to and letting your device connect immediately. If you have any other concerns about your router or the service you’re getting, please contact us anytime at dashboard.eero.
